I am Kathryn Learie and I began Owen Imaging in 2001 after receiving my diploma from Focal Point in Vancouver, BC. I am a mother of two beautiful kids and a wife to a man that introduced me to the outdoors when I was a young adult. I would not be the photographer that I am today if it weren’t for him. My kids are the centre of my world and I don’t think I understood real love before they came into my life. I am grateful to be a mother, and I am passionate about photographing families because of this.

My heart drives me to pursue photographic situations where I can show the connection between people and our natural world. I see grand emotion in light. Light through the trees and light in my studio, it can all paint a scene that will bring a feeling and essentially paint a photograph. I am always looking for light, finding it or creating it, whether I’m working or not working.

One of my strengths is making people feel comfortable by allowing my own vulnerability to shine through. My goal always with every session, whether it’s a wedding or a business portrait, is to provide my clients with a positive and professional experience. I’m a bit of a details person, so be patient with me if I take a bit longer to photograph your session. I am proud to say I got this from my father.

In whatever I do, whether it’s meeting a friend, buying groceries or photographing a session, I always try to lead with my heart. I get goosebumps all the time and I always tear up at weddings. I am proud to say I got this from my mother.
